ourPassaic.org - Technical Advisory Committee and Peer Review
 |
 |
|
The Lower Passaic River is a complex estuarine system. The partner agencies will need to
use the latest scientific techniques to study where contaminants are in the river, how those
contaminants might affect the river's inhabitants, and how habitat might be created or enhanced.
To make sure that the partner agencies are using sound science in the study, a Technical Advisory
Committee (TAC) has been formed. The TAC consists of nationally recognized experts in the scientific
areas indentified as important for this project's success. These areas include sediment transport,
sediment geochemistry, bioaccumulation and food chain modeling, contaminant fate and
transport, mercury modeling, field sampling techniques, and engineering aspects of sediment
remediation.

A group of peer reviewers was convened to review the Comprehensive Conceptual Site Model (with associated Empirical
Mass Balance), which is a key decision-making tool in the Early Action. The group consisted of TAC members with relevant
expertise who were not involved in the day-to-day development of the Conceptual Site Model and other outside experts.
